Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I’d Love a New Book From

Top Ten Tuesday is a tag hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week, she picks a bookish prompt and then posts ten books (or, in this case, authors) that fit the prompt. This week's prompt is "Authors I'd Love a New Book From". I have decided to put these authors in alphabetical order because, why not?

Jane Austen

I especially wish that she'd finished her novel The Watsons, which she began writing around 1803 and (according to Wikipedia) probably abandoned in 1805 around the time of her father's death.

Fredrik Backman

The only works by this fine gentleman that I have not read are The Winners and Things My Son Needs to Know about the World, both of which are on my shortlist! (Meaning I'll probably get to them within the next year or two.) After I get through those, I guess I'll just have to reread My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry.

Kristin Cashore

I always want a new book from Kristin Cashore, and she's coming out with another one that I just learned about! It's called There is a Door in This Darkness and it comes out June 11, 2024.

Cameron Dokey

I really wish she'd written a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling (because I'm obsessed, okay?). I did really like Jessica Day George's retelling of that fairytale, but I just can't get enough!

Ariel Kaplan

I've read all three of her YA books. In looking her up, I did realize that she has a historical fantasy, The Pomegranate Gate, which I'm quite looking forward to reading! But I do wish she would come out with another one like We Are the Perfect Girl, because I really loved that one.

Gail Carson Levine

Specifically, I want more Princess Tales! I own the complete collection, and The Princess Test is my favorite.

C.S. Lewis

The Chronicles of Narnia are perfect, but I do wish that Lewis had had the time/inclination to write more children's books!

Colin Meloy

He wrote the Wildwood Chronicles and then just ... disappeared??! No, wait ... he's the lead vocalist in the Decemberists, a band my husband loves and I somewhat dislike. How am I only just learning this?!?!

In looking him up, I did discover that he has two other Middle Grade books I now want to read, The Stars Did Wander Darkling and The Whiz Mob and the Grenadine Kid. But I'm leaving him on the list because what a coincidence! (I'm sensing a theme here ... I guess I don't keep track of my favorite authors very closely?!)

Marissa Meyer

Specifically, more backstory-to-the-stories/fandoms like Heartless! Maybe she could do Peter Pan next?

Naomi Novik

Is it fair to put her on the list if I haven't read all of her books yet? I'm slowly working my way through the Chronicles of Temeraire (I think I'm halfway through) and I still have to read Spinning Silver, but I devoured the Scholomance series and I would really love more books like that from her!

And there you have it! I feel like I was scraping the bottom of the barrel for most of these. What authors would you like a new book from?

    1. Yes! I'm imagining something like his space trilogy, but more accessible and written for children. Thanks for reading!

  2. Agreed on Marissa Meyer and Jane Austen. A Peter Pan story like Heartless would be so fun. Here is my post https://paigesofnovels.com/2024/05/21/top-ten-nine-tuesday-authors-id-like-a-new-book-from/

  3. Gail Carson Levine would be a great author to get a new book from. I love her books. And I agree with Marisa Meyer, too! In theory, I agree with C.S. Lewis, but I've never read one of his books (except The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). I do mean to read his works one day.

    1. C.S. Lewis is definitely worth reading! I tend to prefer his nonfiction (apart from the Chronicles of Narnia, of course. And I do love The Screwtape Letters as well).
