| Picking up library books; I love dandelions; unexpected ducks |
Welcome back to the Sunday Salon (hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz)! I'm trying to join the linkup on the last Sunday of every month to share both life news and bookish updates.
All covers are linked to Goodreads.
April News
1. I got a new desk chair!!! I work from home and sit at my desk pretty much all day, and I've had the same chair since I was nine. It was old even then, when I inherited it from my grandparents' office. In late March/early April, I started having stiffness and hip pain whenever I stood up (which is not good for a twenty-something). Weirdly enough, I didn't even connect it to my chair until my out-of-state bestie suggested that I get a new one. I did, and my husband put it together for me, and lo and behold, a few weeks later, my hip pain is gone! Hallelujah!
2. I started watching The Forsytes on Amazon. I think I like it? There's something about the lighting or the filming itself that I don't love, but I'm enjoying the story and the characters. I especially like June and Irene.
3. Yesterday was Indie Bookstore Day, and I was able to get the day off work! In the morning, I met up with my in-state bestie for pastries and a walk (below left); in the afternoon, my husband drove us to a cute historic district neither of us had explored before and we visited a few shops, including a bookstore (below right). I didn't find anything I wanted at the bookstore, so we then drove to a different bookstore and I picked up Twice by Mitch Albom as well as a free ARC of The Encore by Juliet Izon.
Just Finished Reading
I finished On Writing and Worldbuilding: Volume II by Timothy Hickson on Thursday, and on Saturday I finished After the Fall by Edward Ashton. Both were a solid four stars for me!
Currently Reading

I've been reading Cecilia, by Frances Burney, since March 30. I think I'm on track to finish it before May! I've also been listening to The Rom-Commers, by Katherine Center (need I say that I'm thoroughly enjoying it?). And I started Yesteryear, by Caro Claire Burke, a few days ago.

I am so glad to hear that you think that about how The Forsytes looks! I can't bring myself to watch it, to me it looks like a glossy ad in a magazine or something. What do you think of Yesteryear so far? I am curious about it!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't put it into words, but that's exactly what I mean about The Forsytes! Too glossy and perfect. I'm still excited to watch the last episode of Season 1 today, though.
DeleteNot sure how I feel about Yesteryear yet – it's a lot more graphic/explicit than I was expecting and I have no idea where the plot is going, but the writing is pretty good and it's definitely an engaging story.
Sounds like the new desk chair was key. Apparently ergonomics has a big impact on how you feel etc. Glad you cured the pain. The novel Yesteryear is sure getting a lot of hype lately ... I'm on the wait list for it at the library. I hope it's good.
ReplyDeleteIt totally was! It's so comfy :)
DeleteI hope you enjoy Yesteryear! I'm hoping to finish it tonight ... I'm really curious to see how it'll end!
I'm disappointed that I didn't get to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day this year as I was volunteering at a wildlife refuge that was about as far from an indie bookstore as you can get. But I will try to celebrate soon anyway!
ReplyDeleteI mean, every day is a good day to celebrate indie bookstores! And the wildlife refuge sounds like a lot of fun, too!
