Books I Got for Christmas 2024 🎄

I wasn't planning on doing this blog post, but I got so many books for Christmas that I thought it would be fun to share them here! All covers are linked to Goodreads.

My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes That Saved My Life, by Ruth Reichl

Genre: Cookbook/Memoir

Given to me by: In-laws

This beautiful book is the follow-up to Save Me the Plums, Ruth Reichl's memoir about working at Gourmet magazine. I love it because it goes through all four seasons in one year of her life. I've already read this, so I just asked for it so I could have it to look at whenever the mood strikes me (which is usually in the fall).

Demon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver

Genre: Fiction

Given to me by: In-laws

"Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, this is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father's good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. In a plot that never pauses for breath, relayed in his own unsparing voice, he braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses. Through all of it, he reckons with his own invisibility in a popular culture where even the superheroes have abandoned rural people in favor of cities." (From Goodreads)

Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to read this!

Classic Tales of Christmas

Genre: Short Story Anthology

Given to me by: Husband

"This collection features more than 20 stories and poems celebrating Christmas, including works from esteemed authors such as Charles Dickens, Louisa May Alcott, and Hans Christian Andersen. With favorites such as O. Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi” and L. Frank Baum’s  The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus , this elegant leather-bound volume will hold a special place on your bookshelf, sure to be enjoyed during the Christmas season, or at any time of the year." (From Goodreads)

I'm looking forward to enjoying this with my hubby next Christmas!

Daindreth's Assassin, by Elisabeth Wheatley

Genre: Fantasy

Given to me by: Parents

"An assassin falls for the archduke she was sent to kill, but killing him might be the only way to save his soul." (From Goodreads)

I discovered Elisabeth Wheatley on Instagram through her Book Goblin videos (I am now the proud owner of a Book Goblin sticker as well) and got curious about her books. I can't wait to dig in!

My Friends, by Fredrik Backman (Preorder)

Genre: Fiction

Given to me by: Sister and brother-in-law

"#1 New York Times bestselling author Fredrik Backman returns with an unforgettably funny, deeply moving tale of four teenagers whose friendship creates a bond so powerful that it changes a stranger’s life twenty-five years later." (From Goodreads)

I'm super excited to read this when it comes out in May!!!

Me Vs. Brain: An Overthinker's Guide to Life, by Hayley Morris

Genre: Nonfiction

Given to me by: Aunt & Uncle

"In her warm and witty debut about living with intrusive thoughts and anxiety, bestselling author Hayley Morris shows—with her signature sparkling humor and unflinching honesty—that being an overthinker is both a blessing and a curse. She confronts the funny (if painful) moments that arise when your brain and body refuse to cooperate and your inner voice won’t shut up. No subject is too taboo for Hayley, whether that’s forgetting how to walk when people are watching or the frustrations of dating. Me vs. Brain is for any reader hoping to befriend their brain, even when it’s 'scatty, annoying, and wrong about basically everything.'" (From Goodreads)

I've been wanting to read this for so long! Hayley Morris is another author I found on Instagram through her reels.

On Writing and Worldbuilding: Volume I, by Timothy Hickson

Genre: Nonfiction

Given to me by: Aunt & Uncle

"Writing advice tends to be full of 'rules' and 'tips' which are either too broad to be helpful or outright wrong. In On Writing and Worldbuilding, we will discuss specific and applicable ideas to consider, from effective methods of delivering exposition and foreshadowing, to how communication, commerce, and control play into the fall of an empire." (From Goodreads)

I discovered Timothy Hickson's YouTube channel, Hello Future Me, a while ago and have been intrigued by his writing books ever since!

Campfire Stories: Tales from America's National Parks, Edited by Dave Kyu & Ilyssa Kyu

Genre: Short Story Anthology

Given to me by: Cousin

"Our national parks are beautiful and unique places, often serving as an introduction to the outdoors and inspiring an appreciation for nature and wilderness. Similarly, stories and storytelling can serve as an introduction to other places and foster a powerful emotional connection to nature.  Campfire Stories brings together tales about our national parks; some are by well-known writers such as John Muir, Bill Bryson, and Terry Tempest Williams, while others are from pioneer diaries or have been passed down through generations of indigenous peoples." (From Goodreads)

I'm intrigued by this anthology! I'm hoping that my husband and I can get away for at least a rustic cabin trip this year (tent camping is a lot less fun now than it was when I was six), and if we do, we'll definitely be bringing this book along!

The Winners, by Fredrik Backman

Genre: Fiction

Given to me by: Cousin

"Two years have passed since the events that no one wants to think about. Everyone has tried to move on, but there’s something about this place that prevents it. The residents continue to grapple with life’s big questions: What is a family? What is a community? And what, if anything, are we willing to sacrifice in order to protect them?" (From Goodreads)

I've read the first two books in Fredrik Backman's Beartown series and I'm excited to read the third and final installment this winter!

Did you get any books for Christmas? Which one are you looking forward to reading most?
