I am so excited to be returning to the Washington Writers Conference on May 2-3! It's only a week and a half away, and I'm deep in edits for Hunted (my YA Snow White retelling)–but unfortunately, I am stalled, having just moved to a new place and adjusting to a new schedule. I'm finding I don't have a lot of time for writing, and when I do, I'm so tired of using my brain that I can't force myself to do any work. Honestly, it seems easier to satisfy my creative needs by writing a blog post than by jumping back into edits. Fortunately, the main plot has not changed, so I can still pitch it to agents at the conference!
I may still tweak some things about this pitch, but it's basically done:
Hunted is a YA retelling of Snow White inspired by the Greek myth of the goddess Diana in which Snow White accidentally kills the prince.
In this retelling, Snow White (whose name actually is Diana) is the result of her mother's wish, granted by a fae creature called a wishgiver. Wishgivers may grant wishes spoken into mirrors, but they never allow the wisher to choose their price, and this wishgiver's price was Diana's mother's life. After her father remarries a woman who seems determined to destroy Diana's very individuality, Diana flees to the forest to claim a wish from the most powerful wishgiver of all, who may or may not even be real–but instead, she accidentally kills the crown prince, who has been transformed into a stag by a mischievous nymph. And the only witness is the queen's personal wishgiver. Diana flees once again, this time ending up at a convent whose inhabitants are more than they seem, and finds herself caught in a deal with the queen's wishgiver. Can Diana break the enchantment he is under before he is forced to kill her?

How exciting! Have a lovely time at your conference!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! :)
DeleteHunted sounds intriguing. I noticed a typo in the last line, the first he should be she. Have fun at the conference :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! The enchantment is actually on the wishgiver, not Diana, so it should be a he–but I can see how it's confusing and I should probably work on clarifying that a little more in the pitch! Thanks for pointing that out!!
