Top Ten Tuesday is a tag hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's prompt is "Books Set in/Take Place During X." (Pick a place, time, era, etc. Examples: Books set in Europe/Italy/Australia/Chicago, books set in Regency England, books that take place during the 1900s, books set in imaginary worlds/post-apocalyptic/dystopian worlds, books set on the ocean, books set in castles, books that take place during WW2, etc.). I have chosen the topic "Books Set During the American Revolutionary War".
Apparently, the Brits call the Revolutionary War the "American War of Independence". Which makes sense, I guess! Just depends which side of the Atlantic you're on.
Since I haven't read as many books set during the Revolutionary War as I would like, I have separated these into books I have read and books I have not yet read, and I only have six books on my list today. All covers are linked to Goodreads.
Books I Have Read
Dawn's Early Light, by Elswyth Thane – My aunt loved this book, and I did too when I read it years ago! I wonder if I'd still like it now.
Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes – I read this for school twice and enjoyed it both times.
The Swamp Fox of the Revolution, by Stewart Hall Holbrook – I read this one (which is children's nonfiction) for school as well. It was fascinating to learn about the life of Revolutionary War guerrilla fighter Francis Marion!
Books on My TBR
A Girl Called Samson, by Amy Harmon – I've seen this on other blogs and it's gotten good review on Goodreads. Sign me up!
The Sherwood Ring, by Elizabeth Marie Pope – I think my sister read this a long while ago and really liked it. I've been intrigued ever since! Oddly enough, several years ago I had an idea for a story that's basically the same as the blurb for this book, which I'd never read until today.
The Turncoat, by Donna Thorland – This sounds like pure fluff, and I am so here for it.
oooo i love this time period! Definitely read Laura Frantz's books too! My TTT
ReplyDeleteMe too! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check out her books!
DeleteI almost did a war setting today, but decided to go a different direction. I can't think of any set during the revolutionary war off the top of my head.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't come up with as many books as I thought I'd be able to, but it's definitely a setting I'm interested in reading more of. Thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteI don't think I've read anything as an adult that's set during the Revolutionary war.

Neither have I! It's a period I love learning about, though :)
DeleteI don't think I've read anything sent during this period!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised that I hadn't read more, looking back at my reading journal! There were tons on Goodreads, but I decided to keep it short this week for the sake of my sanity lol
DeleteI can't think of any books I've read set during this war, making this list a good resource.
ReplyDeleteI definitely recommend the three I've read! I'm excited to read the ones on my TBR
DeleteI read The Turncoat years ago and liked it! I think there is also a Beverly Swerling book set in this time frame too, as well as the later Outlander books! I have another book that is just hovering at the end of my mind that I liked but I can't quite grasp who the author is or what the book is called. It will come to me I am sure!
ReplyDeleteOoh thank you for the recommendations! I'll check out Beverly Swerling and I'm happy to hear you liked The Turncoat!
DeleteGreat list! I almost went with the American Revolution. Have you read the Revolutionary Was Mysteries series by Mally Becker? Highly recommend those. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have not read them, I'll definitely check them out!
DeleteBeautiful blog
ReplyDeletePlease read my post
ReplyDeleteOh, nice! I have more books to add to my TBR. I miss reading historical novels. I'm reading some romantasy right now.
ReplyDeleteI love romantasy! I don't read as many historical novels as I would like to, so I chose this topic partly to challenge myself to read more. Thanks for stopping by!
