I love fairytale retellings. It's basically part of my personality by now. Snow White is not as commonly retold as some other fairytales, such as Cinderella, but there are a few Snow White retellings out there, and I've read a few them. Let's see how they stack up. For the sake of drama, let's do them in reverse order. (All covers are linked to Goodreads.)
5. Fairest, by Gail Carson Levine
Fairest was good, but it wasn't the best Snow White retelling I've read. Thus, even though I love Gail Carson Levine, it's number five on this list.
4. The Casket of Time, by Andri Snær Magnason
This was very weird, in such a good way. I do wish that it had been completely fairytale with no modern day element to it, but it was a lovely, whimsical, thoughtful retelling of Snow White.
3. Winter, by Marissa Meyer
Truth be told, it's been a while since I read this. However, the whole Lunar Chronicles series is fantastic, and I remember really enjoying Winter, so we'll give it third place.
2. Poisoned, by Jennifer Donnelly
I find that Jennifer Donnelly's fairytale tellings lean a bit too heavily in a moralistic direction for my taste, but this is one that I actually really liked–so much so that it inspired parts of my own Snow White retelling, Hunted. It played with the idea of Snow White's credulity from the original tale in a way I really liked.
1. Girls Made of Snow and Glass, by Melissa Bashardoust
I absolutely loved how Melissa Bashardoust played with the original tale and paralleled Mina and Lynet's stories. I didn't connect super well with the characters, but the concept was strong enough to make this number one for me.
Honorable mention goes to Snow White and the Huntsman, which, while not a book, was one of the best fairytale retellings I've seen!

Similarly, it’s been years since I read the Lunar Chronicles, but Winter took my breath away at the time. Nice to see it on this list!
