Books I Found on Instagram (Author Edition)

Occasionally, authors promoting their books will pop up in my Instagram feed and I get intrigued and save their post. And then proceed to forget about them and never read their book.

I would like that to change, so I went through my "Want to Read" list on Instagram and sorted the books I actually want to read from the books that, on closer inspection, aren't really my thing.

Here was my criteria for the books that joined my TBR:

1. I came across them in my Instagram feed,

2. They were being promoted by the author,

3. They are available at my library, and

4. They contain no explicit spice (I checked their content warnings on The Storygraph).

I have also saved several posts of readers recommending books, so I'll be doing that next (although that post will probably be sometime in July).

These are in alphabetical order, and all covers are linked to Goodreads.

Books That Have Officially Joined My TBR

Capitana, by Cassandra James

Genre: YA Romantasy

Release Year: 2025

"Think Pirates of the Caribbean. The Princess Bride. Star Wars. Lord of the Rings. Classic Disney films. Those stories bring the WHOLE family together, because that's what great storytelling has the power to do! So yes, my book is safe for your teen. And you. And probably your parents. :) Because my heart is to tell epic, adventurous, swoon worthy stories for the next generation, just like the ones I grew up loving." – Cassandra James

Depths of Vanalf, by Brady Hunsaker

Genre: Fantasy

Release Year: 2025

"The good guys lost and monsters/demons have taken over the world. And humanity is reduced to a single island protected by a magical shield. And they have to earn their magic by venturing to the bottom of a magical cave filled with monsters, and depending on how they survive, they emerge with different powers." – Brady Hunsaker

Immortal Consequences, by I.V. Marie

Genre: Dark Academia

Release Year: 2025

"Six dead teens attending a magical school in the afterlife ... All of them competing in a once in eternity competition to escape their fate ... Will one of them become the hero the afterlife needs? Or the villain who will destroy them all?" – I.V. Marie

Books That Didn't Make the Cut

Tempests & Tea Leaves, by Rachel Morgan

Genre: Regency Romantasy

Release Year: 2025

"Bridgerton meets cozy fae fantasy with a dash of Pride & Prejudice in this sparkling, no-spice tale of magical debuts, an enchanted tea house, and banter-filled romance." (From Goodreads)

I'm always drawn to books like this, and then I'm always disappointed. However, that's not why this didn't make the cut. First of all, it's not available at my library; I also checked the content warnings on The Storygraph and there was a moderate warning for racism. Sooo ... yeah, no thank you.

Dragons and Aces, by J.G. Gates

Genre: Romantasy

Release Year: 2025

"If you're seeing this,, it means the algorithm thinks you need to try reading a spicy romantasy written by a GUY. Sorry, I don't make the rules ... Anyway, we don't want to piss off the algorithm, right??" (J.G. Gates, from the reel that initially caught my eye.)

"Spicy" is right there in the description, so I'm not sure why I even saved it in the first place?? It's also not available at my library.

Lightguard, by Hayley Turner

Genre: Romantasy

Release Year: 2026

"Me when I realize I CAN write a romantasy where SHE'S the guard and he's the prince she's assigned to against her will." (Hayley Turner, from the reel that initially caught my eye.)

It's not available at my library (and I don't have a Kindle).

Have you heard of any of these books? Which one(s) would you read?
