It's time for Top Ten Tuesday again–and it's nearly Thanksgiving for those of us who live in the U.S.! Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate!
Top Ten Tuesday is a tag hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's prompt is "Thanksgiving/Thankful Freebie".
I decided to do a Thanksgiving book tag that was originally created by Becca and Erica (@Fangirlscity) on YouTube, and which I discovered on A Book Wanderer.
1. Bread - What book is purely fluff, and has no real plot line?
The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy, by Jeanne Birdsall
I know a lot of people absolutely love this book, but I very much did not. It was so boring and had no plot. I think I read somewhere that Jeanne Birdsall wrote this in the tradition of Little Women, but for me it really was all fluff and no plot. Which is not a compliment, by the way, much as I love bread.
2. Turkey - What book made you want to fall asleep?
Selling Sexy: Victoria's Secret and the Unraveling of an American Icon, by Lauren Sherman and Chantal Fernandez
There was some interesting information in this book, but I felt like it was both poorly organized and poorly analyzed, making this a rather mind-numbing read at points.
3. Gravy - What book makes the whole series worth reading?
Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins
I'm a liiiittle obsessed with this series, having read it for the first time this year, and I think Catching Fire was my favorite, if only because I already knew a lot of spoilers for the first book and the last book is just so depressing.
4. Stuffing - What book is stuffed full of action scenes?
The Fantastic Family Whipple, by Matthew Ward
It's been a while since I read it, but I remember this book being just piling one thing after another after another, which made it a fun, if rather dizzying, read.
5. Mashed Potatoes - What book looked good, and then wasn’t?
The Last Tiger, by Julia Riew & Brad Riew
Loved the concept, cringed the whole way through the book.
6. Cranberries - What book has the sweetest romance?
What You Wish For, by Katherine Center
I love how Katherine Center writes romance. Sam and Duncan were absolutely the cutest! I'm swooning over loopy post-procedure Duncan even as I write this. "We won't remember this anyway." 😂
7. Corn - What’s the corniest book you’ve ever read?
Assistant to the Villain, by Hannah Nicole Mehrer
Maybe not THE corniest, but it's definitely the first one I thought of. (This is not a recommendation, by the way.) I'm still debating whether I want to suffer through 300+ pages of terrible writing to finish the series ...
8. Green beans - What book is too long and needs to be shortened?
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke
I apologize to my sister for this, but it really is just too long. Also Les Misérables, but I thought of JSAMN first.
9. Pumpkin Pie - What book do you read to get out of a reading slump?
Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones
I don't really have reading slumps, but I just finished my fourth reading of this and it reinforced how much I freaking love Sophie and Howl, and Diana Wynne Jones's writing style.
10. Dog/Cat - What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food that you would steal from the table?
I would have to say rolls. Or mac and cheese, if you think of that as a Thanksgiving dish! Ooh, or sweet potatoes! Brussels sprouts if they're done right. Or pie ...
Questions below in case you want to do the tag!
