Top Ten Tuesday: Guess the Romantic Quote

Top Ten Tuesday is a tag hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader GirlThis week's prompt is "Love/Valentine’s Freebie".

I was originally going to do my top ten favorite literary proposals and/or declarations of love. However, I didn't get the books out of the library to find the quotes early enough. So here are five quotes of varying fame. The answers are at the bottom of the post, below the bonus quote (which is from my sister's self-published book!).

The Quotes:

1. "I'm asking you to marry me, you little fool."

2. "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more."

3. "Truth is ... well, I love you. And I don't want to ride tandem through life with anybody but you."

4. "I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun."

5. "I've loved you ever since I've known you, Jo, couldn't help it, you've been so good to me. I've tried to show it, but you wouldn't let me. Now I'm going to make you hear, and give me an answer, for I can't go on so any longer."

BONUS QUOTE: The Magic-Wife, the Mariner, and the Milkmaid, by Anna Schollenberger

"I am glad to see you, Haakon," Hildur says once Asta and Espen have taken themselves into the corner. "I have been wishing to speak to you."

"If there is anything I can do for you," Haakon says, and though his tone is even I detect a measure of eagerness there.

She looks boldly up into his face. "You can marry me."

A look of shock, delight, and something only a little removed from horror blossoms across his face. "No!"

Answers:

1. Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier

2. Emma, by Jane Austen

3. Love in Tandem, by Becca Kinzer

4. Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

5. Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott

  1. I only matched three but I’ve never read Love in Tandem and I didn’t like Rebecca so I have almost no memory of it.
