2026 Reading Goal Update

We're halfway through the year, which means it's time to take a peek at our 2026 reading goals! Here are the goals I came up with at the beginning of the year and how they're going.

Goal #1. Read at least 75 books.

I've been reading so much this year that I actually updated this goal to 120 books a few weeks ago! I have currently read 53 books towards my Goodreads goal, which means I'm one book ahead of schedule.

Goal #2. Read at least one book from my paper TBR (as opposed to my Goodreads TBR) per month.

I've read seven books from my paper TBR so far this year! Three of those were in January, and since then I've been knocking out one per month. My informally revised goal is to finish another page (they're small pages).

Goal #3. Read at least one nonfiction book per month.

Last year, I read 16 nonfiction books total. This year, I am already up to 13!

Goal #4. Read one book for each National Month (e.g. Black History Month, Women's History Month, etc.).

So far, so good! It definitely helps that I planned out what I was going to read for each month in advance. Here are the books I've read:

JANUARY (Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month): Nobody's Girl, by Virginia Roberts Giuffre

FEBRUARY (Black History Month): Brother, I'm Dying, by Edwidge Danticat

MARCH (Women's History Month): Jane Austen's Bookshelf: A Rare Book Collector's Quest to Find the Women Writers Who Shaped a Legend, by Rebecca Romney

APRIL (Arab American Heritage Month): Bride of the Sea, by Eman Quotah

MAY (Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month): Kuleana: A Story of Family, Land, and Legacy in Old Hawai'i, by Sara Kehaulani Goo

Goal #5. Read 50 books for the 2026 Cover Lovers Reading Challenge hosted by Susan at Bloggin' 'bout Books.

Okay, I need to pick up the pace on this one. I've read 19 of 50, which puts me a little behind, but not too far, so I think I can still catch up!

Goal #6. Read at least 12 books for the 2026 New Release Challenge hosted by The Chocolate Lady's Book Review Blog.

I've already read nine!

Goal #7. Reread at least five books.

Done!

1️⃣ House of Many Ways, by Diana Wynne Jones

2️⃣ Love in Tandem, by Becca Kinzer

3️⃣ Persuasion, by Jane Austen

4️⃣ Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

5️⃣ The Girl from Everywhere, by Heidi Heilig

Goal #8. Write at least three full-length book reviews for my blog.

Done!

1️⃣ Masquerade, by O.O Sangoyomi [LINK]

2️⃣ Everything's Coming Up Rosie, by Courtney Walsh [LINK]

3️⃣ The Princess Companion, by Melanie Cellier [LINK]

Goal #9. Buy at least three books from local indie bookstores.

Done!

1️⃣ Nobody's Girl, by Virginia Roberts Giuffre

2️⃣ Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen

3️⃣ Twice, by Mitch Albom

Goal #10. Read no more than three physical books at a time (audiobooks don't count 😜).

I've pretty much stuck to this! Occasionally I have even put a book on pause when I got a book I needed to read sooner, which I don't think I've ever done before. This has really kept my reading life in check and I've been enjoying it much more than I thought I would!

Did you make any reading goals for 2026? How are they going, if so?
