It's officially summer!! I'm excited because I actually have two three-day vacations planned this year: one solo trip in July to see my sister and one family trip in early September to spend a long weekend with my husband, parents, sisters, and brother-in-law.

On this season's TBR, I have a few nonfiction books, a couple pirate stories, some historical fiction, a bit of mystery/thriller, and a splash of romance. Let's get into it! All covers are linked to Goodreads.

Genre: Nonfiction/History
Release Year: 2005
This seems like an appropriate book to read in July! It's been on my paper TBR for years, and it fulfills the 2026 Cover Lovers Reading Challenge prompt, "someone in a uniform of some kind."
A Class Apart: Prodigies, Pressure and Passion Inside One of America's Best High Schools, by Alec Klein
Genre: Nonfiction
Release Year: 2007
This is another Cover Lovers Challenge book ("a chalkboard"). It's also my National Month Challenge book for August ("Back to School"). It sounds interesting!
Better Than Revenge, by Kasie West
Genre: YA Romance
Release Year: 2024
Guess what? This fulfills another Cover Lovers Challenge prompt: "a computer." Kasie West is also one of my favorite authors, and I haven't read any of her newer books, so I'm excited to read this!
Capitana, by Cassandra James
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release Year: 2025
This popped up in my Instagram feed, and you know I love a good pirate story, so on the list it went! (It also fulfills the Cover Lovers prompt, "something you associate with pirates.")
Cast & Crew, by Jenny Langford
Genre: Historical Fiction
Release Year: 2026
Another Instagram find! Since it happens to be coming out on my birthday, the author offered to send me a free ebook and I'm so excited to read it!
Pirates of Darksea, by Catherine Doyle
Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy
Release Year: 2024
Storm Keeper is one of my favorite Middle Grade series, so I'm very excited to dig into more of Catherine Doyle's books–especially a standalone about pirates! (And it's also my book for the Cover Lovers prompt "a watercraft.")
Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body, by Rebekah Taussig
Genre: Memoir
Release Year: 2020
This one is my National Month Challenge book for July, which is Disability Pride Month. (And, guess what, it's also for a Cover Lovers prompt! "At least one person using a medical or mobility device.")
Summer at Sunset Acres, by P Kettleburn
Genre: Romance
Release Year: 2025
Okay, I think this is the last Instagram find on this list! I did a reel on my writer account (@karis.dehaven) asking indie authors to put the name of their book in the comments and this was the first one, so I'm going to give it a try!
The Escape Game, by Marissa Meyer & Tamara Moss
Genre: YA Mystery/Thriller
Release Year: 2026
A thriller about an escape room TV show written by Mariss Meyer? Yes please, sign me up!
The Library of Lost and Found, by Phaedra Patrick
Genre: Fiction
Release Year: 2019
My book club read another Phaedra Patrick book, The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, a few years ago and most of us enjoyed it. (There was one lady who was very vocal about disliking Arthur for reasons the rest of us never quite understood.) The Library of Lost and Found also happens to fit another Cover Lovers prompt: "a mug or teacup." (I really need to knock out these prompts, y'all!)
Great job on your spring TBR! It always takes me longer than a season to actually read through most of my previous TBRs.

DeleteA friend of mine has been passing around his copy of 1776 to everyone he knows this year, encouraging us all to read it. I've tried, but McCullough's writing is SO dry. Important, but tough for me to get through. I hope you enjoy 1776 and all these others!
